Governor Fayose's Supporters Staged Protest In Ado Ekiti
Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose’s supporters marched October
24 in protest against the alleged plot of House of Assembly members to
impeach the governor.
According to NAN, hundreds of people carrying placards gathered at
the Fajuyi Park, Ado Ekiti, early Friday and later headed to Ijigbo
roundabout, Okesha, Okeyinmin areas.
Some of the placards read: “No to impeachment”, “We want peace in Ekiti”, “No going back on June 21 election result“.
It would be recalled that victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Fayose was followed by numerous discussions and reactions both negative and positive.
Addressing the protesters Friday, the President and Treasurer the group, Messrs Ojo Patrick and Bello Ganiyu Akande, promised to mobilize people of the state in case any attempt was made to remove Fayose. However the leaders mentioned that the protest was peaceful and adding that “the police are here to ensure that the protest is not hijacked”.
“We just want to show to all Ekiti people that we stand by the result of the last election and our mandate. If the House of Assembly wants us to come and dialogue with them, we are ready.”
Patrick also stressed the peaceful character of the protest saying that any impeachment move should be blocked “in the interest of all Ekiti people”.
Meanwhile the Assembly yesterday debunked the allegation and denied collecting money to remove the governor. According to the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Churchill Adedipe, their meeting in Lagos was aimed at discussing the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Regarding the upcoming gathering, Ekiti APC lawmakers yesterday alleged the plot by PDP members to unleash terror on them during the Friday protest.
