Barely 48 hours after policeman escorting a boat belonging to the
Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) were killed by suspected pirates along
the creeks of the Niger delta, another boat belonging to the company was
once again attacked by gunmen on Sunday.
As at press time there was no word on possible casualties.
The boat was also conveying oil equipment to the Brass oil terminal and
tank farm, the largest oil facility in the country, when it came under
attack. Like that of Friday, the incident occurred in broad daylight
about 10am.
The captain of the tugboat identified as Famous Abrakata was reportedly
abducted and whisked away to an unknown location even as sources
refused to disclose the fate of the security operatives aboard the
vessel.
The bandits were said to have double-crossed the tugboat, which was
coming from Onne in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at an area called Juju
Fish Town along Nembe-Brass waterways.
