15 Army Generals Retire From Nigerian Army
Fifteen generals, including five major-generals and ten brigadier-generals, have ended their active service for their motherland, Nigeria, The Leadership reports.
The ceremony took place at the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) Auchi, Edo State, on October 31, 2014 and was attended by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Chief Patrick Obahiagbon, Chief of Staff to Edo Government and Capt. Pius Senebe.
The corps commander of NASEME Maj.Gen. S. Labaran made a speech during a parade held in honour of the retirees. He emphasised that the top-ranked officers served the country meritoriously, wished them well in their various future endeavours.
In his speech on behalf of the outgoing generals, Maj.Gen. Thompson Oliomoghe (rtd.) expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for the opportunity to serve the nation.
The list of retired major-generals included:
1. Thompson Oliomoghe
2. Edem Ekwo
3. Friday Airende
4. Abass Adekanye
5. Richard Maduegbunam.
The brigadier-generals are:
1. Abel Okpeki
2. Samuel Ayo
3. Samuel Adesogan
4. Idi Adamu
5. Patrick Oviaghase
6. Peter Aremu
7. Jacob Amao
8. Ibrahim Alawode
9. Chukwuka Ani
10. Joshua Ibilaye.
It would be noted that the Nigerian Army is facing a number of difficulties and challenges these days, both internal and external. The case of Maiduguri mutiny, death sentence for the soldiers and defeat in Mubi, Adamawa state, are the most crucial of them.
Another major problem emerged this night, after Abubakar Shekau appeared in a new video, claimed that no cease-fire deal between Boko Haram and Nigerian government ever existed. Therefore, the milirary stand-off in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states will go on.
